On Thursday, the Augusta National Golf Club will host the 2012 Masters. There will be 7,345 yards, par-72 each round that a each golfer needs to conquer to have a chance to wear the coveted "green jacket".
This year's tournament field consists of 97 players, the fifth largest number participants in the Masters' history. There are 91 professional in the field and six amateurs. The field is so diverse that there are 50 players that came outside the USA. Among the nations represented are: Argentina, Australia, England, Ireland, Japan, South Korea and Spain.
Defending champion Charl Schwartzel will have his hands full as he set his focus to defend his title and earn a back-to-back Masters title. Schwartzel scored four straight birdies to close out the tournament and earned his first major title. 2010 Masters champion Phil Mickelson gamely helped Schwartzel to wear the exclusive "green jacket" given to the Masters champion.
The sportsbook handicappers have installed Tiger Woods as the favorite to win the 2012 Masters. However, the likes of Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson may challenge Tiger Woods beginning on the 1st round of the Masters this Thursday.
