On Thursday, the PGA Tour moves to White Sulphur Springs in West Virginia for the Greenbrier Classic. The tournament will be at the Par-70 Old White TPC with tee time set at 7AM ET.
Last week, the golf fans witnessed one of the toughest scoring weeks for this season. At the Canadian Open, the average score to par was at plus 2.52. The other tough tournaments that made the golfers sweat it out were the British Open and Honda Classic.
It would be a different scenario for the Greenbrier Classic. Last year, Stuart Appleby shot a 59 on the last round to win the tournament by one shot. However, it was not only Appleby's heroics but a total of 50 players finished at minus-10 or better when the tournament ended.
Defending champion Stuart Appleby is set to start round at 7:40AM ET. He's group with Phil Mickelson and Tom Watson. Appleby may not be able to duplicate his last round scoring feat since the course is 200 yards longer and the greens a little tighter.
The sportsbook handicappers have installed Phil Mickelson as the favorite to win the Greenbrier Classic. Sergio Garcia looms as his closest competitor in the field.
